FOR PARTICIPANTS IN BUENOS AIRES AND MENDOZA

Additional Information

About the High-Level Forum

With the public High-Level Forum on September 6, the F20 platform wants to set the scene for the upcoming G20 summit in Argentina at the end of November 2018 by drawing particular attention to the necessity of implementing the 2030 Agenda and the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement. The forum will convene high-level representatives of international foundations and philanthropic organizations, representatives of the various G20 stakeholder groups like B20, C20, L20, T20, S20, Y20, Urban20 and W20, science and politics.

This year the event will shed light on the role of climate finance and – with the G20 summit taking place in Argentina – on sharing a Global South perspective on climate and energy policy. With the focus on „Shifting the Trillions — Our Contribution to a Just Transition“, F20 seeks to showcase best ways to align financial flows to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement, requiring revised Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) that can limit global warming to no more than 1.5° to 2°C. In this spirit speakers, experts and panel moderators will focus on the following three main thematic blocks:

  1. Race to the top – Financing investments in the Global Renewable Energy Uptake
  2. Factoring in environmental costs – Internalisation of externalised costs
  3. Carbon transparency – the rate limiting factor for a just transition

About the F20 Internal Strategy Workshop

After the public F20 High-Level Forum in Buenos Aires, we would like to invite you to the F20 Internal Strategy Workshop from September 07 to 09 in Mendoza.

At this internal F20 meeting, designated high-level representatives of the F20 platform and friends will participate for a three-day common experience and strategy workshop. The intention of these days is to get to know to each other, to gain a common understanding on how we want to collaborate in the future and to align our respective expectations towards a common strategy for the F20 platform.

The focus lies on building a momentum and deeper understanding for the potential of our platform in view of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement in context of the G20 summit 2018 in Argentina. It should also create an inspiring perspective on the upcoming G20 summits in Japan and Saudi Arabia. During the same days, the last G20 Sherpa meeting will also be held in the city of Mendoza, at the feet of Mount Aconcagua.
