G20: Foundations taking a strong stand!
“Green Recovery, Sustainable Finance, Just Transition: Putting Words into Deeds”
Under the headline of “Green Recovery, Sustainable Finance, Just Transition: Putting Words into Deeds“, the Foundations Platform F20 will host together with its Italian F20 partners Fondazione Unipolis, Fondazione Cariplo, Fondazione di Comunità di Messina and Compagnia di San Paolo this year’s (virtual) “Climate Solutions Forum”, from Wednesday, September 29th to Thursday, September 30th in Milan. The F20 Climate Solutions Forum will be supported by Assifero (Associazione Italiana delle Fondazioni ed Enti della filantropia Istituzionale), ASviS (L’Alleanza Italiana per lo Sviluppo Sostenibile) and ACRI (Associazione di Fondazioni e di Casse di Risparmio Spa). The high-level event will refer to the role of the G20 countries to build on the lessons learned from the current health and climate crises and adopt programmes to build up resilience.
Likewise, the issue of sustainable finance, opportunities to shift the trillions and the role of communities, regions, and cities in driving the green and inclusive transition forward will be in depth displayed and discussed in different formats including high-level keynotes, panel discussions and interactive breakout sessions. The following four thematic blocks highlight the given framework of this year’s event.
I. Revisiting the Health, Food, Biodiversity and Climate Nexus – Expectations regarding the G20, COP15 and COP26 process
Growing competition for land, energy, and water along with population growth is placing further pressure on our food system. Key principles are needed to help shaping a vision of global food production that is resilient, regenerative, diverse, and healthy. This panel will formulate expectations towards the upcoming G20 summit as well as the COP15 on Biodiversity and COP26 on Climate to take action to the world’s biggest challenges.
II. Financing the Green and Just Transition: Shifting the Trillions and Sustainable Finance
Experts and business representatives will discuss and determine the most pressing questions around sustainable finance and impact investing and the role of sustainable finance in overcoming the global crises. Some of the key questions that will be addressed, will focus on what is needed to finance a green and just transition and how philanthropy can help to unlock the necessary financial resources.
III. Implementing the Green and Just Transition: The Role of Cities, Communities and Regions
Under this theme, lessons learned during the COVID-19 pandemic will be discussed as well as the subject of how cities and communities can rebuild better in a post-COVID world. The panel on Implementing the Green and Just Transition will thus formulate expectations towards the upcoming G20 summit to include cities and communities into the energy transitions process.
IV. Aligning the Green and Just Transition with the Paris Climate Agreement and the UN Agenda 2030: Recommendations of Foundations Platform F20 and the G20 Engagement Groups to the G20 Summit
High-level representatives from international as well as local foundations will discuss the most pressing questions for philanthropist and their role in aligning the green recovery with the Paris Climate Agreement and the UN 2030 Agenda.
In the further course of the Climate Solutions Forum, the recommendations to the G20 countries will be presented and representatives of the international and Italian philanthropy will take a stance for the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
