F20 Statement on the UN pre-COP in Milan
Being responsible for around 75 percent of global greenhouse gases and 80 percent of global GDP, the G20 countries have a particular responsibility to tackle the climate and biodiversity crisis. Despite all promises, actions taken in order to counteract global warming do not sufficiently reflect this responsibility.
The pre-COP, taking place from 30th September to 2nd October in Milan, Italy, is central for the G20 countries to demonstrate equitable responses to the global crisis setting the scene for both the G20 summit in Italy in the end of October and the upcoming COP 26 in Glasgow in November.
Foundations Platform F20 is organising this year’s “Climate Solution´s Forum” under the headline of “Green Recovery, Sustainable Finance, Just Transition: Putting Words into Deeds“ coinciding with the time and place of the Pre-Cop. By advocating our F20 recommendations, we seek to urge the G20 Heads of State to adopt programmes in line with the 1.5 degrees trajectory of the Paris Climate Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Foundations Platform F20 strongly calls upon the G20 Heads of State to rapidly phase out fossil fuels and decarbonise the finance sector. These actions are critical for the joint commitment to a net-zero and science-based emission target aligned with the Paris Climate Agreement, to deliver on the global goals and ultimately build up resilience.
